May 7, 2012 (Tucson, AZ) – The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees announced that it has set a goal of raising and donating $50,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure during its 37th National Convention and Trade Show, which will be held July 8 – 12, 2012 in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.

During the National Convention, attendees will be able to participate in three fundraising events, the proceeds of which will be designated for Komen. These include live and silent auctions, as well as a raffle similar to what the convention has hosted in the past, but for different charities. National Coalition leadership is currently soliciting items for each event to be auctioned and raffled.

“This year marks the 30th anniversary of Komen, and over the past three decades, they have raised and invested more than $1 billion to fight breast cancer, raise awareness and educate the public about this devastating disease,” stated Bruce Maples, chairman of the National Coalition. “We are doing this for all those battling breast cancer and their families, especially those who are part of our collective 7-Eleven family. Every individual in our family has been touched, at some level, by cancer and this is one way we can bring healing. It is our honor to be a part of Komen’s noble efforts through this campaign,” he concluded.

The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees is the national trade group for 7-Eleven storeowners in the U.S., representing the interests of over 3,300 convenience store owners whose 5,468 franchise-owned stores employ nearly 40,000 workers.

April 24, 2012 (Tucson, AZ) – The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees has joined with 7-Eleven, Inc. and 13 top suppliers in a nationwide fundraising initiative to support Hire Heroes USA, a non-profit organization offering transition assistance, job search assistance and job placement services to those veterans injured or disabled in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operating Enduring Freedom, the war in Afghanistan.

Last July, at its annual convention in Las Vegas, the National Coalition presented Hire Heroes leadership with a check for $310,000 to support the organization’s transition assistance workshops run at military installations. This year, the National Coalition intends to better that number during an aggressive campaign beginning on May 1 and concluding on June 30. In concert with its 5,468 franchise-owned 7-Eleven stores, the National Coalition is raising funds through sales of 39 specific products offered by brand-name companies who will donate a portion of each sale to the fundraising effort. Participating companies include Anheuser-Busch InBev, BIC, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, E. & J. Gallo Winery, The Hershey Company, Kellogg’s, Kraft Foods, Inc., Mars, Inc., MillerCoors, Nestlé Professional, Nestlé Waters, PepsiCo, and Perfetti van Melle.

An additional $100,000 is expected to be raised through the Joe Saraceno Memorial Golf Tournament, to be held July 10, 2012 during the National Coalition’s 37th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Hawaii, as well as through donations from the public accepted through the 7-Eleven corporate website. In support of this campaign, Dr Pepper-Snapple Group has arranged to have the 7-Eleven, Inc., National Coalition, and Hire Heroes logos featured prominently on the Andretti Auto-Sports Indycar, which will compete in the Indianapolis 500 on May 27 and four other races in 2012.

“When we selected Hire Heroes as one of our designated charities three years ago, we were encouraged by their good works and were honored to help support them financially,” stated Bruce Maples, national chairman of the National Coalition. “What we didn’t know, and surely could not have imagined, is that when all is said and done, we will have raised over three quarters of a million dollars for them. The franchisees of 7-Eleven, their families, employees and all of our customers recognize what our servicemen and women do for our country and we are honored to be able to give back to them through our donations to Hire Heroes. On top of that, we’re pleased to be in the middle of this cause equity program during the month of May, which is National Military Month,” Maples concluded.

The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees is the national trade group for 7-Eleven storeowners in the U.S., representing the interests of over 3,300 convenience store owners whose 5,468 franchise-owned stores employ nearly 40,000 workers.

April 9, 2012 (Tucson, AZ) – Registration is now available online for the National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees’ (NCASEF) 37th National Convention and Trade Show, which will be held July 8 – 12, 2012 in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. The theme of this year’s convention, “Islands of Opportunity,” reflects the optimism of the franchisees, their families, and the vendors who will attend this year’s convention. Franchisees and vendors can register online now by visiting https://ncasef.com/program-pages/national-convention-trade-show

Last July, over 60 major sponsors and 300 exhibitors participated in the 36th National Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, the most successful to date. As part of the convention, the National Coalition made donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Hire Heroes USA, its designated charities for 2011. The National Coalition will again engage in a fundraising campaign for charities beginning this spring.

“We’re excited about this year’s National Convention,” stated Bruce Maples, chairman of the National Coalition. “Our franchisees have been working hard to make 7-Eleven the best convenience store chain in America with the greatest variety of products and lowest prices around. We’re incredibly proud of them, and our annual national convention is always a great opportunity to get fired up, exchange ideas and learn best practices for our industry,” Maples concluded.

National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees
Announces Record Level of Charitable Funding at 36th Annual Convention

August 10, 2011 (Tucson, AZ) – The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees announced today that it has helped to raise nearly three quarters of a million dollars this year for two of its charitable partners, Hire Heroes USA and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Hire Heroes is a non-profit organization offering transition assistance, job search assistance and job placement services to those veterans injured or disabled in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases.

During its most successful convention in its 36-year history last month in Las Vegas, the National Coalition presented Hire Heroes leadership with a check for $310,000 to support the organization’s transition assistance workshops run at military installations. In concert with 7-Eleven, Inc., and nine vendor partners, the National Coalition and its 36 Franchise Owners’ Associations raised funds through sales of specific products offered by brand-name companies which donated a portion of each sale for the program. Participating companies included Nestlé USA, Anheuser-Busch InBev, MillerCoors, E. & J. Gallo Winery, Dr Pepper-Snapple Group, Tropicana Products, Inc., Mars, Inc., Kellogg’s and Kraft Foods, Inc. Fees from the Coalition’s annual Joe Saraceno Memorial Golf Tournament, and donations made from the public, also contributed to the total. This donation was the second in a three-year commitment to Hire Heroes, and the largest single-year contribution made to Hire Heroes by the Coalition.

The National Coalition also presented MDA with a check for $420,000, representing funds raised through a national store-based canister program supported by 7-Eleven, Inc, as well as live and silent auctions at the Coalition’s annual convention. The contribution is a manifestation of a long-term partnership between the MDA, the Coalition, its Franchise Owners’ Associations, individual franchisees and 7-Eleven, Inc.

“Our ability to give back to these important programs is something that makes each and every member of our 7-Eleven franchisee family very proud,” stated Bruce Maples, chairman of the National Coalition. “Committing ourselves to supporting both our military veterans and those individuals and families who have been touched by neuromuscular disease represents the great American tradition of generosity that our owners, their employees, our vendors and our customers are known for.”

The Coalition’s 36th annual national convention in Las Vegas brought in record numbers of franchise owners and exhibitors. In addition to the trade show for exhibitors, the convention featured a range of speakers including Super Bowl XII Champion Drew Pearson of the Dallas Cowboys. Actor Max Adler, star of the hit television series Glee, was also on hand to sign autographs and support the work of MDA and 12-year-old Abbey Umali, MDA’s 2011 National Goodwill Ambassador. Preparations are now underway for the 37th annual convention which will be held next July in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees is the national trade group for 7-Eleven storeowners in the U.S., representing the interests of 4,900 franchise-owned stores, and their membership organizations, which employ nearly 40,000 workers.

National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees Urges Owners, Employees and Consumers to Leverage Website for Swipe Fee Reform

TUCSON, Ariz., May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees came out today urging the owners of its 4,900 franchise-owned stores, their nearly 40,000 employees, and their customers to contact their elected representatives by visiting www.unfaircreditcardfees.com which provides individuals with the advocacy tools necessary for communicating their support of the Fed’s current rulemaking process in swipe fee reform.

Currently, big banks and credit card companies are attempting to delay and kill this needed reform through a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign which, if successful, would cost each individual 7 Eleven store an average of $7,000 per year.

Bruce Maples, national chairman of the Coalition, referencing a sudden announcement of pro-delay advocates that the banks can apparently now live with a shorter delay period, warns that these kinds of PR tactics are manipulative and deceptive. “If policymakers buy into the propaganda perpetuated by the big banks and credit card companies, our franchisees have no choice but to pass on these arbitrary fees directly to their customers,” he stated. “This responsible law was agreed to last year with American families in mind and, given the state of the economy, it is unconscionable that big banks are now attempting to thwart the will of the people through a carefully choreographed yet disingenuous campaign,” he continued. “We are urging our members and their customers to re-double their efforts to reach out to Congress so their voices can be heard above the clamor of the credit card companies. We urge everyone to visit www.unfaircreditcardfees.com.” Both merchants and consumers can click on the appropriate links on the website which will direct them to further information and an easy to use online action alert with which they can reach out to their representatives and senators.

The National Coalition has sent franchise owners to Washington, D.C. over the past 10 weeks to visit their members of Congress, and encourage them to support the Federal Reserve’s swipe fee rulemaking process. They have joined numerous other retail organizations and associations on Capitol Hill, including members of the broad-based Merchants Payments Coalition, in this important effort.

The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees is the national trade group for 7-Eleven storeowners in the U.S., representing the interests of 4,900 franchise-owned stores, which employ nearly 40,000 workers. The Coalition has 36 regional Franchise Owner’s Association member organizations throughout the 30 states in which 7-Eleven operates.

Statement from
Bruce Maples, Chairman
National Coalition of Associations of 7-11 Franchisees

The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees, representing nearly 5,000 small businesses across the country, strongly opposes the last minute attempt by the major banks and credit card companies to arbitrarily delay the implementation of interchange fee reform that Congress passed last year.

This desperate maneuver, masquerading as pro-business in the form of an amendment to a bill that is designed to support small businesses, will do great harm to nearly 40,000 employees of franchise-owned 7-Eleven stores, their families and their customers. The massive fees that these reforms would responsibly limit today cost merchants $12 billion a year, or $33 million per day, which our franchisees have no other choice than to pass on to their customers. Ironically, delaying these important reforms will cause greater harm to the very people on whom credit card companies rely for their profits, the American worker. We simply can’t stand by and watch the small business infrastructure on which our economy is built collapse under the weight of the big and powerful banking interests that will allow profit potential to trump the will of the people.

We urge Congress to oppose any attempt to delay the important reforms that it successfully passed last year. Hearings have already been held, alternatives have already been considered, and Congress has already voted. It’s time for the Federal Reserve to complete the process.

National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees
Urges Congress and the Federal Reserve to Move Forward on Swipe Fee Reform

March 7, 2011 (Tucson, AZ) – The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees came out today in support of debit card swipe fee reform, calling on Congress and the Federal Reserve to responsibly implement a new federal statute that limits excessive fees charged by credit card companies in retail transactions.

One of the largest retail trade associations in the United States, the National Coalition is urging its members, vendors and customers alike to reach out to their members of Congress to support the Federal Reserve’s new swipe fee rules and move debit card reform forward. A comprehensive website—www.unfaircreditcardfees.com—has been set up to provide individuals with the advocacy tools necessary for communicating their support of the Fed’s current rulemaking process, a process that major credit card companies are fighting to arbitrarily delay. The National Coalition is urging storeowners, customers, and vendors to visit the website without delay, as the proposed Fed rule is expected to be finalized by April 22, and will go into effect on July 21.

“The punitive practices of the credit card companies must be stopped,” stated Bruce Maples, national chairman of the Coalition. “Swipe fees cost merchants $12 billion a year, or $33 million per day, which our franchisees have no other choice than to pass on to their customers,” he continued. “We strongly support the successful Congressional effort to provide relief from these exorbitant fees, and would like to see the Fed responsibly implement the spirit of the new law without further delay.”

The National Coalition will be sending franchise owners to Washington, D.C. over the next 10 weeks to visit their members of Congress, and encourage them to support the Federal Reserve’s swipe fee rulemaking process. They will join numerous other retail organizations and associations on Capitol Hill, including members of the broad-based Merchants Payments Coalition, in this important effort.
